Essential Oil Flu Bomb

This is one of my blog's most popular posts. The essential oil flu bomb -- it really, really works!!

3 drops Oregano
5 drops On Guard essential oil blend
5 drops Melaleuca
5 drops Lemon (optional)

If you feel like you are starting to come down with a cold or a flu, put these oils in an empty capsule and take internally. Repeat every 3-4 hours until you feel better again.

For children
  • Put oregano, melaleuca and OnGuard essential oil blend on their feet (1 drop of each and apply every 2-3 hours).
  • You can also can add 2 to 3 drops of On Guard essential oil blend and 2 drops Lemon essential oil to a teaspoon of honey for cold or cough relief for children.
We've been putting 1 drop of On Guard and 1 drop of Melaleuca (in addition to some other oils, like Frankincense and Balance) on the bottom of our six year old son's feet twice a day as a preventative measure since his body's immune system needs extra support.

You can purchase all of the above oils as part of doTERRA's Family Physician Kit, or purchase each oil separately. Information about ordering is here.

  1. I don't have any capsules yet, just getting started, since all of these can be done with a glass of water, will it be as effective? Thanks!

  2. Hi Lori: Yes, these are just as effective if taken in a small glass of water / juice, and then followed by a separate glass of water / juice to chase it. My husband does it that way since he doesn't like taking capsules. It's pretty powerful / gross tasting though!

  3. I just ran out of On Guard, is there anything I can use as a substitute or should I just leave it out?

  4. Just leave it out, or add thyme or frankincense.

  5. I ran out of Melaleuca - will it affect the effectiveness of the flu bomb?

  6. When I run out of one of the oils, I just use what I have on-hand!

  7. for everyone asking "i ran out of [insert oil here], will it be as effective?" the short answer is no; however, the reality is that ANYthing is better than nothing. use what you have. it may take longer to get better, but you will get there.
