Benefits and Uses of Myrrh
  • Powerful cleansing properties, especially for the mouth and throat
  • Soothing to the skin; promotes a smooth, youthful-looking complexion
  • Promotes emotional balance and well-being
  • It's said to impact our sense of maternal connection and healthy attachment, especially relating to trust, abandonment, trauma, and feeling unsafe.
  • Add 1–2 drops to toothpaste for added cleansing benefits and to promote oral health.
  • Myrrh essential oil blends well with Frankincense, Lavender, Sandalwood and all spice oils. 
DIY Mouthwash: 
In a glass container, mix the following:
  • 1/2 c Filtered Water
  • 1 tsp Calcium Magnesium Powder and
  • 2 drops each Cinnamon, Peppermint, Clove and Myrrh essential oils.
Rinse mouth after you brush your teeth.

Favourite benefits and uses of frankincense

Our favourite ways to use frankincense
  •  For seasonal immune support - rub 1 drop of Frankincense on the bottoms of the feet each day.
  •  For stress - rub 1 drop of Frankincense on the back of the neck. Also, at the end of a long day, you can add 1 drop of Frankincense and 1 drop of Lavender to a warm bath and soak.
  • When you or someone around you is not feeling well or you feel like you're coming down with something - place 10 drops each of Frankincense, OnGuard, Lemon, and Oregano in a 10ml glass roller ball. Fill the rest of the bottle up with Fractionated Coconut Oil. Then, rub a few swipes on the bottoms of your feet each day.
  • Headache relief - place 1 drop of Frankincense and 1 drop of Copiaba under the tongue.
  • To reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars, or blemishes - add 1 drop of Frankincense to your favorite face cream and rub into the skin.
  • Because of its emotional and spiritual effect, the high vibrational aroma of frankincense essential oil is commonly used in prayer and meditation, helping a person drop out of their mind and ego and move into presence with their spirit or center of consciousness.
Menstrual Discomfort Blend: 
Massage 2 drops Sandalwood and 2 drops Frankincense over the abdomen and lower back to ease discomfort.

Health benefits of Copaiba essential oil

Copaiba essential oil is an incredible oil that is derived from the resin of the copaiba tree. While copaiba doesn't contain psychoactive cannabinoids, the main component caryophyllene may be neuroprotective and have cardiovascular and immune benefits. It’s also a powerful antioxidant that promotes immune health!

As you know, I use doTERRA essential oils, and their Copaiba oil is a blend of resin from Copaifera reticulata, officinalis, coriacea, and langsdorffii.

Here are 7 Ways to Use Copiaba Essential Oil:
1. Liver support - rub one drop over liver each day.

2. Maintain Healthy Blood Pressure - Place 1 drop under the tongue each day, or put 1 drop in a veggie capsule and swallow with water and/or rub 1 drop on the spine daily.

3. Immune and Thyroid Support - Place 1 drop of Copiaba and 1 drop of Frankincense under the tongue each day and/or rub 1 drop of each on the spine daily.

4. Digestive System - Rub 1 drop of Copaiba and 1 drop of Peppermint over the stomach or lower abdomen.

5. To Calm the Nervous System - Rub 1 drop Copaiba on the spine each day.

6. Inflammation - Place 1 drop Copaiba under the tongue each day, or put 1 drop in a veggie capsule and swallow with water and/or rub 1 drop on the spine daily.

Sanitizing spray for hockey equipment

This is a great sanitizing spray for hockey equipment.

 Combine the following in a 4 oz spray bottle:
  • 35 drops melaleuca essential oil
  • 35 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 20 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 1 oz. witch hazel
  • 2 oz. water
Spray down sports equipment after each use and allow to dry completely.

Tangerine Essential Oil

This month, doTERRA released Tangerine essential oil! Are you as excited as we are?  It's an economical citrus oil that can be used to support the immune system, reduce stress, in cooking and so much more!

It blends well with Bergamot, Lavender, Clary Sage, Douglas fir, and Peppermint. Keep in mind that because it's a citrus oil, it's best to avoid sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after applying it to the skin.

Here are 10 Ways to Use Tangerine Essential Oil:
  1. Sore muscles - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine oil on the area of concern.
  2. Poor Circulation and Water Retention - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine oil over the area of concern or place one drop in a veggie capsule and take internally. If you struggle with circulation issues often, especially water retention, you'll want to use foods and oils that will help support the adrenals. The adrenal glands control the levels of hormone aldosterone which is what keeps edema and swelling in check. 
  3. Achy joints - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine oil on the area of concern. 
  4. Summertime Diffuser Blend (this is a lovely blend!) - 3 drops Tangerine, 3 drops Lavender and 2 drops Douglas fir. 
  5. To Reduce Stress - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine and 1 drop of Lavender on the bottoms of the feet, or over the heart. 
  6. Congestion - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine and 1 drop of Eucalyptus over the chest. 
  7. Occasional Constipation - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine and 1 drop of Peppermint over the stomach. 
  8. Energy Boosting Diffuser Blend - 3 drops Tangerine, 3 drops Spearmint and 3 drops Lemongrass. 
  9. To Help Reduce Inflammation - Rub 1 drop of Tangerine and 1 drop of Frankincense on the bottoms of the feet each day. 
  10. To Support a Healthy Metabolism - Put 1-2 drops of Tangerine oil in ice water and drink throughout the day. If you're not comfortable using essential oils internally, you can use them however feels best for you.

Staying Alert while Driving
If you start feeling drowsy, roll the window down for fresh air and take a whiff of an invigorating essential oil.
- Peppermint essential oil is a great essential oil for focus. Increases mental clarity and accuracy.
- Rosemary essential oil is versatile, stimulating and helpful for alertness.

Fear of Flying
For many, flying can be an unpleasant experience. Dealing with crowds, lugging baggage and long periods in small spaces can be stressful. For others, plane travel itself creates anxiety.

Here are some essential oils and blends that can help combat fear of flying and stress:
- Wild Orange and Lavender blend - Diffuse these two essential oils together to reduce fear and anxiety.
- Frankincense essential oil has an earthy, sweet aroma that is relaxing without sedating you. It stimulates the limbic part of the brain, helping the mind overcome stress and fear.
- Roman chamomile essential oil has a crisp and sweet aroma. It has a calming effect on the nerves.

Bringing comfort with an aromatherapy hand massage

One of my most meaningful memories involving essential oils is when I travelled home and visited my dad's best friend when he was in a nursing home. I offered to give him a hand massage with Balance essential oil blend and fractionated coconut oil.  It was a simple offering, and I felt like it was a way for me to bring some comfort and care for someone who I loved and was like an uncle to me.

Balance essential oil blend is a blend of spruce, ho wood, frankincense, blue tansy and blue chamomile essential oils. It smells exactly like going for a walk through the woods and I find the scent very calming and grounding. It's my absolute favourite blend. It meant a great deal to me to share it with my dear friend and bring comfort to him in this way.
